Kitchen Makeover

This past summer, after putting in 8 offers all of which got rejected, we finally closed a deal to buy our second home in Carrollton and sold our Falcon Ridge house. The real estate market in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is in crazy demand and it was very difficult for us to find a house within our price range that was not interested in by another 100 people! While we were so happy to finally move into our new home, this is a 1982 house that had not been renovated at all, so much work was waiting for us!

After months of working on the kitchen, it's finally done, renovating this kitchen was our largest project so far!

For flooring and backsplash, we sourced materials from Floor and Decor. We always find this superstore a great source for tiles and wood flooring due to their very competitive pricing and huge selection that stays up-to-date on trends.

We installed Meridian Slate Gray Porcelain tiles for the floor not only in the kitchen but also for all bathrooms and two guest bedrooms. These tiles are 12" x 24", easy to keep clean, and deliver the modern rustic look we wanted.

For the backsplash, we went with Black Natural Slate tiles in 3" x 9" size. These very dark gray to black tiles bring a nice contrast to the refinished cabinets in white.

Granite counter top was sourced from A1 Flooring & Granite in Lewisville. This was the most expensive part of this project as on top of purchasing the granite, we had to contract out installation. We called and visited several places to get pricing and read tons of reviews and decided to go with A1's Viscon White granite. Their pricing and service was awesome and we loved how the counter top turned out. We used the same granite for all our bathrooms and the wet bar as well.

The most time consuming part of this project was refinishing the cabinets. After a ton of research, we gave up the idea of installing new cabinets. That option was too expensive. After spending hours at Sherwin Williams and days watching Youtube tutorial videos (Ales does this for every project!), and messing up a couple of cabinet doors of course, we finally figured out proper steps to clean, refinish, and paint old cabinets. We took all the cabinet doors off, cleaned them properly, wiped them with de-glossing liquid to take off the shine. Then Ales painted them with two coats of prime, and two coats of SuperPaint Interior Acrylic Latex in Pure White, semi-gloss finish. All cabinets were painted inside and out.

We got our Kraus 33" Deep Undermount 60/40 Double Bowl Kitchen Sink and Avola Brushed Nickel sink faucet from Amazon. Also, the rolling island with stainless steel top is a very functional piece for the kitchen from Wayfair. Home decor pieces are from Pier 1. Our farmhouse dining set was made by a local family business here in Dallas, called Inspired Custom Wood Furniture.

Ales made the hanging wall planter with Lowe's Rustic Barnwood Pine Wood Wall Planks and Behrens 2-Quart Residential Paint Buckets. Super inexpensive and a great way to bring the outdoor element indoor!
